Feeding your Koi
There are a great many types of branded food especially made for koi, all of which have been tried and tested. Koi food should contain a balanced amount of minerals, vitamins, proteins, fats and other elements. Therefore we suggest that you feed your fish the highest quality food you can afford and not the cheaper options such as trout pellets. Feeding quantities and types of food given is governed by the seasons (water temperature).
During the spring feed Koi sparingly, and easily digestible foods such as wheatgerm, whilst water temperatures are low.
As the temperature rises, you may slowly introduce staple foods into their diet. Offer the Koi more food in the summer, but only give them as much as they can consume in a few minutes. (Feed little and often).
As the water temperature decreases into the autumn and winter, feed less often and with more readily digestible foods.
During the warmer periods the majority of Koi will enjoy the occasional treat, such as prawns, lettuce, cockles and why not even try half of a orange for your Koi.
